PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays will resume Game Five of the World Series on Tuesday with the score tied at 2-2 in the sixth inning after steady rain created unplayable conditions on Monday.

Philadelphia are one win away from clinching the World Series crown, holding a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

After Tampa Bay tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth on a field where rain had left puddles on the infield, umpires ordered the diamond covered.

Major League Baseball officials said the forecast called for rain throughout the night, forcing a rare ruling to suspend the game and complete it from the sixth inning on Tuesday.

Light rain had been forecast for Monday but it grew stronger on a chilly night at Citizens Bank Park and whipping wind made it even more difficult for the players, who were struggling to catch balls hit high in the air.

Officials were reluctant to halt the game with the Rays trailing but were quick to pull the teams off the field after Carlos Pena singled off Phillies starter Cole Hamels to drive in B.J. Upton with the tying run.
