Xiamen sees boom in holiday consumption
Consumption levels in the coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province experienced a boom during the recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which lasted from June 22 to 24.
According to statistics released by the city's commerce bureau, the city received more than 1.31 million visitors during the three-day holiday, bringing in over 1.08 billion yuan ($149.76 million) in total tourism revenue.
During the holiday, Xiamen launched more than 100 cultural and tourism activities featuring traditional culture and folk customs and 10 exclusive travel routes for the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in a bid to meet the diversified needs of tourists during the holiday.
According to data from travel booking website Qunar, Xiamen is one of the top 10 travel destinations for high school students taking the national college entrance exam. Data from the Muniao accommodation service agency show that Xiamen is among the top 10 cities in terms of homestay bookings. During the holiday, short-distant trips, coastal leisure tours, and family tours were popular among tourists.
Gulangyu Island, located in Siming district, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Xiamen. During the holiday, Gulangyu Island rolled out an array of cultural and tourism activities, including a hanfu show, a poetry recital, and a sachet-making activity, to enhance the confidence of the tourism industry, boost tourism consumption and promote the recovery of the culture and tourism sectors.
Statistics show that six monitored scenic areas in Xiamen received 241,200 visitors over the holiday, growing by 27.1 percent year-on-year.
