Free water bottles handed out in Xiamen
A total of 220,000 bottles of free water have been delivered to people working in the scorching heat in Siming district, Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, since August.
The online charity event – which promises one free bottle of water for every repost – is meant to support people forced to work in the scorching summer heat. The event began picking up attraction on July 10.
An article for the event, entitled Hot! Hot! Hot! Every repost leads to one free bottle of water was viewed more than 1 million times and shared 200,000 times through the simingkuaibao omni media platform, which includes WeChat, Weibo and Douyin (known as TikTok outside China), in just one week.
In addition, a number of companies expressed a desire to help deliver the water.
Xiamen Linjia Food and Beverage Investment Co Ltd and Paragon Commercial Management Co Ltd provided a total of 200,000 bottles of drinking water, while Ant Financial Services Group provided 20,000 bottles of drinking water and 10,000 bottles of Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui, a traditional Chinese medicine meant to fight diarrhea and emesis in summer, according to local officials.
