E-town to get tram system

Updated : 2017-02-24

Despite modern transportation including private cars and company shuttle buses, commuters in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area will soon be able to travel by tram.

Work on Tram Line T1 will soon begin and is expected to be finished by the end of 2017, according to a Feb 17 chinanews.com report.

There will be a total of 15 stops along the way connecting the four main areas of E-town: Lunan area, Hexi area, Ludong area, and Hexin area –– the main area.

Passengers can transfer to Beijing Subway Yizhuang Line at the Rongchang Dongjie stop.

As a means of rail transit, apart from the convenience it will bring to residents, the trams boast the advantage of low emissions and high speed, with a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

The trams will be scheduled to run every 4 minutes.

In October 2016, a PPP (Public-private partnership) cooperation agreement on trams was signed between the Administrative Committee of E-town and Beijing Public Transport, marking the beginning of the tram project.
