Zanzibar, an archipelagic state on the Indian Ocean, is located to the east of Tanzania and has a population of 1,300,000. Listed as one of the world's least developed countries by the UN, Zanzibar has a great shortage of medical resources and a backward medical condition. There are only two comprehensive hospitals throughout the country.
To further promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the new strategic partnership featuring Sino-African destiny and community of interests, the training course gave medical training to 25 local medical and hospital administrative staff.
The training was offered to refresh the lives of local hospitals, cultivate a group of talents for modern hospital management, and improve clinical diagnosis and treatment, as well as comprehensive management and medical service.

It specifically targeted a standardized hospital management strategy for a local hospital in Zanzibar, and included 10 days of training in theory, medical skills and clinical guidance. The program also included an “MOC Conversazione for Medical Foreign Aid Trainees”, introduced by Zhu Lihui, vice-president of Hunan Children's Hospital of China and the director of this overseas training course. Theoretical contents covered 12 fields, including a general overview of China, management of medical and nursing quality, and management of neonatal and premature babies, while the skill training involved the BLS for neonatal babies, children and adults, including CPR and tracheal intubation.
Zhu also pointed out that the overseas training course focuses on teaching people "how to fish" instead just "giving them fish" to raise their ability in clinical diagnosis and treatment, comprehensive management and medical service.
