Little successors of traditional opera

Children perform Dixi, or "land opera",  in Tunpu village of Anshun city, Southwest China's Guizhou province, Aug 22, 2012. Dixi has a history of more than 600 years, and originates from a military ceremony to boost morale at the beginning of an expedition during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was listed as a national Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006. But the art form has few successors, and in order to better preserve the traditional Chinese opera, children 9 to 12 years old were organized to learn the opera during their summer vacations. Since 2007, more than 50 children have trained in Tunpu village. [Photo/Xinhua]
