Comment on “Make Spring Festival an international holiday” (China Daily website, Jan 20)
It is the Chinese New Year, not the international New Year. It is an important Chinese festival, but it has nothing to do with most countries in the world. In those countries with a large Chinese population, the day is already marked with big celebrations by the Chinese living there.
For example, if you wanted India to celebrate the Chinese New Year, what would you do in return? Would China then celebrate Diwali, which is an important celebration of renewal in India.
