Tianjin Port celebrates 60th anniversary

Tianjin Port, located along the Bohai Sea, has played a key role among China's coastal ports because of its proximity to the capital, Beijing. The earliest history of the port can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-220). The port was formally established in the most prosperous era, the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), and thrived in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. In 1860, the port was opened to the outside world and witnessed the country's ups and downs. After three years of reconstruction following 1949, Tianjin Port opened again in 1952. Since then, the port has been striving to develop to be a world-class port through hard work, reform and opening-up.

October 17th, 2012, marked the 60th anniversary of Tianjin Port since its reopening. The six decades have seen a strenuous, pioneering, unyielding and developing Tianjin Port whose achievements have astonished the world.

Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and State Council in the past decades, the port has transformed from a shabby, clogged harbor into the world's fourth largest port, with an annual cargo throughput of 450 million tons. It is one of the world's top man-made deepwater ports and a leader in China's port industry.

The port has honored the past six decades with its brilliant achievements and will continue to aim for higher goals.
