Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), met with a delegation of judges and officers led by Sundaresh Menon, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore, at the Supreme People’s Court on Aug 28.

During the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation on the continuing education of judges.

The delegation came to the SPC to attend the third China- Singapore Legal and Judicial Roundtable which was held that day.

Zhou briefed the development of the rule of law in China and the SPC's work, saying that Chinese courts have effectively raised the quality and efficiency of their work by deepening judicial system reform, expanding the application of information technology, building a one-stop diversified dispute settlement mechanism and a one-stop litigation service center, and setting up the First and Second International Commercial Courts and the Intellectual Property Court.

He said he hopes that the two sides will conduct more pragmatic cooperation on such issues as case studies, personnel training, trials of international commercial cases and diversified dispute settlement mechanisms.

His words were echoed by Menon, who said he expects to deepen its pragmatic cooperation with the SPC under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
