Judicial exchange promotes China-US relations

Judicial exchanges and cooperation are expected to promote the China-US relationship, according to a meeting between China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the National Committee on United States-China Relations on Dec 5.

Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the SPC, welcomed a US judicial delegation led by Stephen A. Orlins, president of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, at the SPC.

At the meeting, Zhou said the committee has been working on promoting China-US relations and the delegation's visit will definitely be positive for both countries.

China's rule of law and judicial work of courts at various levels was outlined at the meeting.

Zhou said Chinese courts are focusing on deepening judicial reform, constructing Internet courts and building professional teams to improve the modern judicial system and enhance judges' capacity.

He added that China’s courts are making efforts in legal protection of human rights and that intellectual property rights protection is highly valued as it contributes to a sound and fair business climate.

Zhou also expressed his willingness to increase exchange and cooperation between the SPC and the National Committee on United States-China Relations to push forward relation between the two countries.

Orlins said he was impressed by China courts' efforts in informatization and judicial transparency and he hopes the two sides' cooperation will play a role in promoting China-US relations.
