英雄烈士保護法(yīngxióng lièshì bǎohùfǎ): Law on the protection of heroes and martyrs
A law to protect the reputation and honor of heroes and martyrs was approved recently, and the law came into effect on May 1.
The law has been introduced so the country and the people forever remember the sacrifices made by the nation's heroes and martyrs for the good of the country. The whole of society is required to learn from and defend the nation's heroes and martyrs.
It bans the defamation of heroes and martyrs, and any distorting or diminishing of their deeds. According to the law, people who defame the country's heroes and martyrs, or sully their reputations and honor will face administrative or criminal punishments.
The law also stipulates that publicity and education about the deeds and spirit of the nation's heroes and martyrs should be incorporated into the national education system.
Governments above county level are required to incorporate the construction and protection of memorial facilities into local economic and social development planning. And legal entities that donate property for the protection of heroes and martyrs will enjoy preferential tax, according to the law.
