Zhou, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court of China and also chairman of the CJSA, said that the association has been playing an important role in theoretical research, improvement of Chinese rule of law, the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and the long-term stability and prosperity of Hong Kong and Macao.

He spoke highly of its contribution in organizing all kinds of activities and researching a group of key issues on Chinese judicature and the rule of law since its establishment one year ago.

Zhou hoped that the legal profession from the cross-Straits, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese will offer suggestions in both judicial theory and practice.

As regards the future of the association, Zhou said it could best serve as an exchange and communication platform to unite all Chinese legal voices around the world and express China’s views on the rule of law.

He urged the association to organize more seminars and invite experts and scholars to make comparative studies. He also urged comprehensive research and efforts towards self-improvement.
