凈網(wǎng)行動(dòng) (jingwang xingdong): 'Clean Up the Internet' campaign
Since July, the Ministry of Public Security has been carrying out a campaign to crack down on illegal practices and crimes on the Internet. The campaign will last half a year.
The campaign focuses on online illegal activities such as cyberattacks, online theft using Trojans and Internet fraud. Local public security departments at various levels, under the unified command of the ministry, have investigated more than 7,400 cases so far involving online violations of the law, and have arrested more than 15,000 criminal suspects.
The local public security authorities have also strengthened their inspection and regulation of website and Internet service providers. More than 66,000 illegal websites and columns have been investigated, and online content containing pornography, violence and gambling has been deleted.
In the next stage of the "Clean Up the Internet" campaign, the public security authorities will make greater efforts to catch and punish organized gangs committing online crimes.
