A letter to international students at Shanxi University

Dear all international students,
Recently, a novel coronavirus pneumonia?first reported?in the city of Wuhan, China, is spreading in Hubei province and even the whole country. At present, governments at all levels in China and all walks of life are making every effort to curb the spread of the epidemic. According to the State Council of the People's Republic of China's "Emergency Plan for Public Health Emergencies" and in conjunction with the situation of epidemic prevention and control in Shanxi province, the People's Government of Shanxi Province has started a first-level response to major public health emergencies at time of 18:00 on January 25, 2020. Shanxi University attaches great importance to all international students’ safety and health. In order to thoroughly and effectively fight against the novel coronavirus, the School of International Education and Exchange (SIEE) has made the following notifications:
Students who are already in your home country should not return back to the university before the new semester officially begins. Please do not book return tickets in advance. The start time of new semester will be notified later through phone calls and WeChat group according to the coronavirus control situation and school’s plan. Anyone should not return to the university in advance. Please keep following the latest updates, notices, information and regulations issued by Shanxi University and SIEE.
International students, who are traveling in other cities of China, must keep in touch with your class teacher. You are requested to tell your class teacher all relevant information about your travels, such as the names of the cities you have visited, the names and addresses of the hotels you have stayed in, and your itinerary (travel plan) such as the arrival date and time, and the flight number before you come back to the university. After returning to the dormitory or tenement outside of the campus, please pay close attention to your physical condition. The clinical symptoms of infection with the new coronavirus are fever, cough and other symptoms. If you find yourself in fever, fatigue, cough or other related symptoms, please report it to the teacher immediately. When it is necessary, you’ll be quarantined for further medical observation in accordance with the relevant provisions on epidemic prevention and control of Shanxi province.
International students who plan to go back to your home country or have to go to other cities in China must report to your class teacher about your itinerary as detailed as possible in advance.
Please pay close attention to the news on control and prevention of the new pneumonia on official media to keep track of the latest epidemic situation, and the instruction on National Health Commission (http://en.nhc.gov.cn) to learn the knowledge of disease prevention and self-protection. Please have an objective understanding of the novel coronavirus and firmly believe that it can be controlled and prevented. Do not believe in the unconfirmed information or rumors and do not disseminate false information.
To guarantee all international students’ health and safety, all outsiders are forbidden to enter the international students’ dormitory building. International students in the building should register at the lobby when leaving and returning, and measure the body temperature when entering the dormitory building.
During this special period, please refrain from going outdoors, do not participate in parties and other group activities, do not go to public areas, and keep away from wild animals. If you have to go out, please wear a mask. In addition, please wear a mask when you go out of your room to the public kitchen and passageway of the international students’ dormitory building.
Please increase health protection. If you go out, please wear a mask. Ensure you have enough sleep. Wash hands when you come back to dormitory and ventilate your room frequently. Keep a healthy diet and keep warm to avoid catching a cold. Do not spit and remember to cover the nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. Do not be anxious and panic. Maintain good mentality.
Please keep in touch with your class teacher. For those who stay in China, please timely report to your teacher about your physical condition. Pay more attention to your health. If you find yourself in fever, fatigue, cough or other related symptoms, please wear a mask and report to your class teacher immediately. If students around you have above symptoms, please help to report and take certain isolation methods.
SIEE will closely follow the situation and notification from superior government offices and will keep in touch with international students to timely publicize related information. Please always pay attention to the information from the school.

Please believe that Shanxi University will always care about the health and safety of all students, and please believe that with our joint efforts, the battle against the virus will succeed soon!
