The sub forum of the 2015 Low-carbon Development Summit, part of the 5th China (Taiyuan) Int’l Energy Industrial Expo, kicked off on Sept 16 in the Taiyuan Coal Trade Center. Shanxi University is the organizer of the forum, under the sponsorship of the Shanxi Provincial Science and Technology Bureau.

The vice principals of Shanxi University, Yang Jun and Gao Ce, hosted the forum. The speakers included Xu Tongmo, former principal of Xi’an Jiaotong University; Jiao Junsheng, chief geologist of the University of Wyoming in the US; Sun Qi, one of the first batch experts of the National One Thousand Experts Plan; Prof Yang Hairui, head of the Thermal Power Engineering Research Institute of Tsinghua University; David Winter, president of the Jackson Global Affairs Center in the US; Wang Yueming, vice president of Xi’an Thermal Energy Research Institute Co; Wei Rusheng, chief economist of the Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission; and Yuan Yutian, GM of Shanxi Ruiguang Thermal and Electricity Co.

The theme of the summit is "Green development of the black coal industry,low-carbon development of a high-carbon resource". The summit includes a main forum, a sub forum and several low-carbon development seminars.
