According to the Datong Municipal Tourism Bureau on April 10, Datong saw nearly 2.4158 million travelers at home and abroad, 22,894 of those from aboard, a year-on-year growth of 58.61 percent. There were 2.3929 million domestic travelers, up 11.8 percent, with the total tourism revenue reaching 2.185 billion yuan ($346.7million), 30.06 percent more compared to the same period last year.
From January to March this year, Datong held a string of large-scale activities, especially in traditional scenic spots. These efforts have propelled the development of tourism in the low season.
The city also launched ten tourism routes with each covering several scenic spots in the urban (county) areas. This will effectively promote the “Jinshan Jinmei” or “Perfect & Beautiful Shanxi”, Shanxi’s new tourism slogan, and enhance Datong’s attraction as a tourist destination.
