The biggest inland port for meat imports in Northeast China received national approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ) on Dec 28.
As an important project improving people’s livelihoods, Shenyang started the construction of the meat port in the first half of this year with a total investment of 3.07 billion yuan ($441.8 million).
The meat port, covering an area of 800,000 square meters in Hunnan district, Shenyang city, has the biggest refrigeration house in Northeast China, with a storage capacity of 700,000 tons. The Shenyang meat port is designed to clear 15 million tons of imported meat through customs every year.
The port is equipped with a professional on-site inspection room and food safety risk management system; imported meat can be directly transported to the port for inspection and quarantine, saving time and money compared to using a seaport; with the whole process carefully monitored.
The port also has a trading center and distribution center, where imported meat can be purchased through e-commerce channels and delivered by a professional transportation service, making it possible for consumers to buy fresher meat at cheaper prices.
