The world's first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled vessel made its first voyage in the coastal city of Zhangjiagang in Eastern China's Jiangsu province on Feb 7.

The ocean-going cargo vessel highlights high-end equipment from world-famous companies, including the natural gas-fueled engines designed by Rolls-Royce Maritime and the navigation system of Japan's Furuno Electric Co.

It also features a main deck that can transport vehicles, storage rooms with minus 27 degrees temperature and gas tanks that?are enough for 3,400 nautical miles.

Compared to traditional diesel fuel, the use of liquefied natural gas-fueled engines can reduce the carbon dioxide emission by 35 percent, cut the nitrogen oxide emission by 95 percent and save energy costs by 18 percent.

The ship, built by Shi Tsuji Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Co, adopts the "Environmental Ship Concept" of Rolls-Royce Maritime, which helped it win the "Next Generation Ship Award" at the Nor-Shipping Awards in 2011. The Next Generation Ship Award recognizes the yard, designer or owner with the most promising design idea for a ship.
