The eastern Chinese city of Wuxi held an environmental protection activity to promote old clothing recycling on June 4, inviting local expats to share their stories and measures about environmental protection in daily life.

Jointly organized by the Wuxi publicity department and the Guolian Group, the informative and entertaining event offered a fashion show of redesigned old clothes, a chance to donate used clothes and a clothing design lecture given by professionals.

More than 60 foreigners working or studying in Wuxi took part in the activity.

Kawakami, a 71-year-old from Japan, donated some old clothes during the event and shared Japan's environmental protection measures.

"Japan is an incredibly clean and eco-friendly country that is super keen on recycling. Waste disposal is carried out strictly at the municipal level. We rigidly abide by our city's rubbish sorting system in everyday life because trash-related issues could easily become a cause of trouble with your neighbors. To establish a comfortable life for both you and others in the community, it is important to follow local rules for trash collection.

Japan's Environment Agency has formulated laws and regulations to systematically clarify the measures to be taken by the national and local governments, actions to be carried out by citizens, businesses and private organizations and the roles of parties involved and the ways and means for effectively pursuing environmental policies."

Tamara, a young Canadian girl who works in Wuxi, also shared her experiences and ideas on environmental protection.

"Everyone can contribute to environmental protection. It's in our daily life, just as used clothes can get new life in the recycling system."
