Taicang, a county-level city under the administration of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, announced that another 400 rivers will be built or dredged over the next five years to improve the water town’s natural and living environments, local media reported on Mar 9.
There are currently 3,400 waterways in Taicang, the longest of which crosses the entire city, 20 of which cross entire districts, 227 of which cross entire counties, and over 3,000 of which connect villages.
Taicang has been doubling down on efforts to improve its natural and living environments in recent years by shutting down polluting enterprises, opening civic parks, and tackling ozone pollution.
