Grass Elf, the first musical themed on Inner Mongolia’s grasslands will make its debut at Baotou Theater this June.

Featuring characters from a previous Baotou-produced 3D animation of the story, the musical is set to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia.

Grass Elf, the 52-episode 3D animation, told the story of a guardian of grass seeds fighting against field mice that steal and eat the seeds. It targeted the protection of grasslands and promoted the traditional grassland culture of Inner Mongolia.

Through the stories of the elves, the animation aimed to promote bravery, kindness and persistence among children.

The new musical follows the clues of Maori, a field mouse who desires to be a grass elf to protect the Karachi grassland. The production is divided into a total of seven acts, and, through humor and plot twists, touches on issues such as environmental protection, friendship, hope and life.
