Updated: 2016-08-09

In the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), Inner Mongolia proposes to boost the development of its internet infrastructure, and aims to have 95 percent of its citizens connected to the internet by the end of 2020.

In this period, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region will implement broadband projects that involve the construction of broadband networks, fiber-optic connections to people's homes (FTTP), fourth-generation mobile communications technology (4G), and wireless networks. Other projects will accelerate broadband construction in rural areas supplemented via wireless networks, such as wireless local area networks (WLAN) and satellites.

The region will encourage the development of "triple play" networks which involve the integration of voice, video and data. The government will encourage the application of internet protocol television (IPTV), mobile TV, interactive digital TV, multimedia terminals and smart household appliances.

Also, the government will establish digital television networks via cable, terrestrial and satellite transmission to advance network technology, service and coverage. Due to integration, telecom and broadcast companies will share resources and infrastructure to boost industry efficiency.

It is hoped the construction of internet infrastructure will help promote new types of industry, informationization, urbanization and modernization of agriculture.
