The Ministry of Commerce included Hohhot in the third batch of pilots for the meat and vegetable distribution traceability system in 2012. After two years, the city has developed a full-range traceable chain for meat and vegetables, and completed the evaluation in the end of 2014.

Hohhot's traceability system is expected to put into operation at the end of 2015.

Another city in Inner Mongolia, Baotou, was included as a pilot city in 2014. To date, the city has already mapped out the system's work plan and technical plan. The construction of its traceability system will be start this year.

The systems in the two cities will cover local slaughterhouses, wholesale markets, farmers' markets and supermarkets. The whole chain of meats and vegetables will be traceable from production, transportation to retailing.
