Inner Mongolia starts building efficiency label system

(chinadaily.com.cn)

Updated: 2014-11-05

The building technology promotion center of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region recently unveiled a building efficiency label system, which will be adopted to newly-constructed, reconstructed and expanded public buildings and government office buildings, as well as commercial housing projects.

All civilian buildings must be assessed according to building efficiency labeling technical standards, and get a label from one star to three stars. The period of validity is five years.

The label system will help mark the energy efficiency of the buildings, and promote the use of energy-saving technologies. Also, it will improve market transparency, regulation and supervision of real estate developers.

In many Western economies, there have been well-established technical and label systems for civilian building efficiency. Denmark is one of the first European countries to have efficiency label systems for residences, and the Energy Star system developed in the United States in 1998 has been used on more than 220,000 residential buildings.
