Guiyang arranged a painting exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Long March on Oct 15.
At the Zhongtian Calligraphy and Painting Academy, people can admire Chinese paintings from Oct 15 to 24, oil paintings from Oct 25 to Nov 4 and wood block paintings from Nov 5 to 14.
The 227 works on display were selected from hundreds of entries during a two-month evaluation period that began in July. All of them were created by young artists.
Before the exhibition, Guizhou Youth Artists Association arranged for 15 young painters to take a journey along the original route of the Long March and some works created by them during this time are also on display, furthering strengthening the theme of the exhibition.
The Long March, a 12,500-kilometer-long military expedition was conducted by the Red Army and led by the Communist Party of China (CPC).
From 1934 to 1936, an 80,000-strong Red Army force took part in the epic trek, leaving their bases and marching through raging rivers, snowy mountains, and arid grasslands, which laid an important foundation for the Communist victory in the war.
The army experienced many important turning points of the war in Guizhou province, crossing 61 counties there.
Soldiers of the Red Army famously crossed Chishui River four times to outwit advancing imperialist forces 81 years ago and break free from an enemy encirclement that could have cost the war.
In 1935, the city of Zunyi witnessed one of the most important meetings in the history of the Communist Party of China, when Mao Zedong was elected as leader of the CPC.
