Several pieces of advanced Chinese marine scientific exploration equipment will be displayed during an industrial expo in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, this week.
Jiaolong, China's deep-sea manned submersible, the Qianlong-1, unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle, and the oceanic surveying satellite Haiyang-2, which monitors maritime environment and extreme weather, will help demonstrate China's overall strength in marine scientific research, said Zhuang Xiaodong, vice mayor of Zhanjiang.
Jiaolong finished a 120-day exploratory voyage in the southwest Indian Ocean in March, collecting data and samples for hydrothermal fluids and conducting deep sea biodiversity research, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
"Also, some domestic and overseas oceanic scientific research organizations and companies will bring the latest technology and equipment to the expo, to facilitate cooperation in the marine sector," said Zhuang.
The annual China Marine Economy Expo opens on Thursday, attracting 1,606 organizations and companies from 43 countries and regions.
