Halal food products went on display in Linxia, Gansu province on Oct 14 as part of a six-day exhibition.

Halal food from different countries, including Malaysia and Iran, and various ethnic groups is on display at the exhibition, which aims to promote the Belt and Road Initiative.

A snack exhibition and intangible cultural heritage exhibition will take place over the course of the event, in addition to a wide-ranging display of halal foods.

In recent years, local authorities in Linxia have made efforts to develop its halal food industry. A halal beef and mutton production base has been built there and a series of policies have been launched aimed at helping halal food processing companies based there.

Linxia is also home to the only halal food certification authority in Gansu, which allows companies in the province to export food under the halal trademark. The authority is approved by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia.

According to Ma Xueli, director of the Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture, the exhibition works as a platform to display and sell the ethnic halal food from Gansu province.

Ma said he expects the exhibition to promote the local halal food industry and create more business opportunities for exhibitors.
