Qilihe Lily Park, in the city of Lanzhou, Gansu province found an unusual way to celebrate the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, on Sept 8, by putting the world’s largest lily moon cake -- 212 cm in diameter, 113 cm thick, weighing 450 kg —on display as a part of its “Meet in Lanzhou for a Mid-Autumn Festival with Deep Feelings” program.

The cake was then cut up and handed out to the guests. The themed activity had municipal government backing, with invitations going out to more than 500 guests from government departments, star hotels, travel agencies, and the media.

This was the activity’s most amazing show and certainly got a lot of attention and the producer, the Lanzhou Anqi Food Co, even got a Guinness Record out of the creation, which took 20 moon cake specialists two days to complete, using more than 350 kg of Lanzhou lilyand 80 kg of flour. The cake had four Chinese words on it, meaning, fittingly, “Meet in Lanzhou”, and six Flying Apsaras (from the Dunhuang Cave frescoes), to show the unique culture of Lanzhou.

The activity came in several parts to introduce the city’s tourism resources, such as a lion dance, gourd sculpture, local music, and other folk culture as well as the Lanzhou scenery.
