Research Report, No.71, 2019 (Total 5571) 2019-5-15

Abstract: In 2018, China’s economic growth showed a slight decline from 6.8% in 2017 to 6.6% and most of the provinces (regions and municipalities) witnessed a downward trend of growth. With the improvement of coordinated regional development, regional disparities became further narrowed and the differences relating to regional GDP and per capita GDP among various provinces (regions and municipalities) also became mitigated. The year of 2019 will usher in the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the coordinated development of regional economy will continue to be the supporting factor for the mid-to-high growth speed of China’s economy. But it needs to be noted that the coordinated development of regional economy in China still faces the some major challenges and tasks. We need to greatly enhance the level of regional integration, further advance regional division of labor and cooperation, effectively narrow regional development gap and strive to raise the capacity of sustainable development of the ecological environment. In addition, we need to focus on solving the problem of unbalanced development between urban and rural areas, explore more ways to reduce regional disparities, give prominence to the effective management of regional ecological environment, and further implement the notion that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets as well as the concept of green development.

Key words: regional economy, regional coordinated development, the task of coordinated development
