Sweden has third lowest child death rate in Western Europe

A recent study shows that Sweden has the third lowest infant mortality rate in Western Europe, which is 2.7 deaths per 1,000 births, local media reported on Monday.

The death rate of children under the age of five in Sweden is only higher than Iceland and Andorra in Western Europe, whose child death rates are respectively 2.4 deaths and 2.6 deaths per 1000 births, reported the Swedish online daily the Local.

Seen from worldwide, Sweden ranks fourth as Singapore's infant mortality rate is 2.3 deaths per 1000 births, lower than Iceland and Andorra, showed the report conducted by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle of the United States.

According to the study by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, infant mortality rates of the United States and Britain are respectively 6.6 and 4.9 deaths per 1000 births for children under the age of five.
