To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Xinjiang Production and Construction Acrobatic Troupe, an acrobatic show, titled In That Remote Place, was staged in Beijing on May 22-23.

As part of the ongoing Meet in Beijing Arts Festival, which runs through the end of May, the show talks about young Chinese, who were sent to work in remote villages across the country in the 1950s and 60s.

Set in the desert areas of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the show revolves around Ma Junwu, who devoted his life in Xinjiang and build up the place along with his colleagues.

According to Feng Xiaoling, director of the troupe, the show premiered on Oct 6, 2014, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Different from traditional acrobatic shows that tend to largely display dazzling techniques of the performers, in this show, the troupe aims to combine such skills with a storyline.

Feng says that with many young performers joining the troupe in the past few years, its 60-year-old history has been injected with fresh life.

The next major show by the troupe may revolve around retired soldiers, she adds.
