Century-old railway station 'retires'

A man holds the plate 4415/4416, after the final train pulled into Zhangjiakou Railway Station, marking the "retirement" of the century-old station in Hebei province, June 30, 2014. Built in 1909, the station was the terminal of the first China-built railway line – the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. After Zhangjiakou South Railway Station went into service in 1956, the business of the old station was gradually transferred. As the lines between the two stations cross many residential areas and schools, causing traffic jams in the city, Beijing Railway Bureau decided to end the service at the old station which will continue to sell tickets.
