A total of 200 young offenders at Fujian Juvenile Delinquents Prison in Fuzhou, Fujian province, are attending courses to further their education.

Their classes are held every afternoon during the week, and they have to pass through special security gates to reach the classrooms. The offenders were divided into 9 different grades following a special test.

"All juveniles have the basic right to receive education and it is even more important to protect and secure the rights for young offenders. Some criminal acts of young offenders are rooted in their lack of education," said Lin Qi, a police officer.

Lin also said that "classroom discipline and learning atmosphere here are even better than most elementary schools and middle schools in the city."
