HK busts smuggle scam; thousand disks seized

HONG KONG --?Hong Kong Customs Thursday announced that a smuggling attempt was foiled in Sai Kung of the New Territories, with the seizure of 1,237 computer hard disks and a private car, totally worth about HK$400,000 (US$51,269).

At about 4 am Thursday, officers of the Customs' Special Task Force conducted an anti-smuggling operation in Sai Kung, and found seven men removing some goods from a private car to a speed boat on the seashore.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is a fine of HK$2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
