A Chinese electronics manufacturer expects to take home entertainment to another level with its new 65-inch television set.

Hisense Co Ltd's product - the 4K ULED H10 Series Curved Smart TV - will feature a picture that is four times as clear and sharp as the usual image now found in most homes in the United States, the company said.

"The TV itself is a computer," Jerry Liu, president of Hisense USA Corp, said at the product's launch event in New York on Wednesday evening. "It has a powerful CPU (central processing unit). There will be no need for additional devices to access content from the Internet."

Liu said Hisense is among the top three companies in 4K television. 4K means that a TV has a horizontal resolution of 4,000 pixels.

Hisense's competitors are Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and LG Electronics.

"We believe that our technology is better," Liu said. "We have our own technology that enhances picture quality so that you can even see a hair on a person's head."

With a 3840x2160 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, the Curved 4K ULED TV displays stunning details on screen, has a more fluid picture and gives the user an immersive viewing experience with a luxury design, the company said in a statement.

The television features 3M Quantum Dot Enhancement Film technology that produces over 100 percent of the current color standard, providing a more vivid picture with a wide range of colors and hues.

Will the typical consumer be able to discern the picture quality enough to appreciate the technology and purchase the product?

"We believe that most consumers will notice the improved picture quality," Liu said. "Think back to when HDTV first became available. It didn't take long for consumer demand to catch up."

"Because the television is already a computer, you will not need any additional devices to access online content from providers like Netflix.

"Hisense and Netflix are working together to build content," Liu said.

Hisense is partnering with Amazon.com Inc to market the television. It will retail for about $3,000.

"Eventually we hope to expand distribution to Best Buy and other retailers," Liu said.

Hisense USA is a subsidiary of the Hisense Co Ltd, a State-owned enterprise headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong province.

Founded in 1969 as a small radio factory in China, Hisense has grown into a global conglomerate with a workforce of more than 75,000. In addition to TVs, the company also makes household appliances and mobile communications devices.

In 2010, Hisense established a North American research and development center in Atlanta, Georgia. The new television is part of its strategy to increase brand awareness in the US, according to Vice-President Lin Lan.

"Hisense products are available in more than 130 countries and regions, with no doubt the US being the market of most importance with lots of opportunities," he told China Daily in February.
