Singapore, China weigh new co-op project in W. China

(Xinhua) Updated: 2014-08-01 11:33

SINGAPORE - Singapore and China are exploring a new joint project in West China, the third after an industrial park in Suzhou and an eco-city in Tianjin.

The city state's Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing made the announcement on Thursday.

No exact location has been decided for the new project, but Teo made such remarks just after he wrapped up his official visit to Chongqing, one of the mega cities in West China.

Officials from Singapore have recently also paid visit to Guangxi, Shanxi and Sichuan.

Chan said the new project would be a new milestone for bilateral relations.

"This will give us a new platform, a new milestone for our bilateral relations. We understand one of China's priorities is to develop its western region. We hope to work on this together with China, to find a new business opportunity that will give our next generation of leaders a common platform to consolidate our bilateral relations," he said.

More details of the project are expected to be revealed later this year.
