TAIPEI -- Huawei, a leading information and communication technology solutions provider in the Chinese?mainland, will increase purchases from Taiwan suppliers, said a senior manager Tuesday.

Philip Jiang, Huawei's vice president, told a cross-Straits business forum that the company is likely to buy products worth of NT$110 billion ($3.85 billion) from its Taiwan suppliers this year.

Last year the figure was NT$99.5 billion ($3.48 billion), according to Jiang.

Taiwan companies have become the third largest supplier for Huawei, Jiang said.

"We will increase the variety of purchases as well," he said. "We will not only buy mobile phones but also tablet computers, and we will expand from components for base stations to devices related to IPTV and clouding technology."

On Tuesday, Huawei signed agreements with two Taiwan partners, Foxconn and Prime Electronics and Satellitics Inc. In next three years, Huawei will buy products worth of NT$70 billion from the two companies.

The cooperation between Huawei and Taiwan suppliers is mutually beneficial, as Huawei has strong capacity of providing network solutions and Taiwan partners hold the advantages of producing and designing electronic components and devices, Jiang said.

Huawei is one of the 68 companies that have sent representatives to join a mainland business delegation to Taiwan, headed by Jiang Yaoping, vice minister of commerce.

The 160-strong delegation arrived in Taipei on Monday.

Companies across the Taiwan Straits have enjoyed a favorable cooperative environment since the two sides signed the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) last year, said Jiang Yaoping, at the same business forum.

In addition to the information, petrochemical and machinery industries, which have boomed through cross-Straits cooperation, companies can explore new industries such as clean energy and bio-tech, Jiang said.
