China welcomes and congratulates Indonesia on becoming a full member of BRICS, and such an addition of the group follows the historic trend of the collective rise of the Global South, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

In a statement released on Monday, the Southeast Asian nation's formal membership was announced by Brazil, the BRICS chair this year.

Indonesia, as a major developing country and important force in the Global South, highly recognizes the BRICS spirit and has taken an active part in "BRICS Plus" cooperation, a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in an online statement.

Indonesia's official entry into BRICS serves the common interests of BRICS countries and the Global South, and China believes that Indonesia will make active contributions to the development of the group, the spokesperson said.

China stands ready to work with Indonesia and other BRICS members to jointly build a more comprehensive, close, practical and inclusive partnership, the spokesperson said.

China will also work with them to advance the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, and make greater contribution to building a community with a shared future for mankind, the spokesperson added.
