China and Switzerland pledge joint efforts for Middle East peace and stability
China and Switzerland have reaffirmed their commitment to keep making positive contributions to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, an official said on Monday.
In a recent phone conversation, Special Envoy of the Chinese government on the Middle East issue Zhai Jun discussed with the Swiss Envoy to the Middle East, Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart.
He briefed Brülhart about the recent reconciliation talks among Palestinian factions in Beijing from July 21 to 23 and expressed China's sincere hope for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine and the realization of national unity based on the internal reconciliation of Palestinian factions.
Zhai praised Switzerland's active efforts in advancing the two-state solution.
Brülhart commended China for successfully mediating reconciliation talks among 14 Palestinian factions that jointly signed the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity.
He emphasized that Switzerland shared the same position with China on the issue of Palestinian internal reconciliation, believing a unified stance among Palestinian factions that speak with one voice is a prerequisite for achieving the two-state solution and resolving the Palestinian issue.
Switzerland is willing to maintain communication with China on the issue, he added.
