'Twisters' to storm Chinese box office in simultaneous US release
As one of the biggest Hollywood films of the summer, Twisters, a stand-alone sequel to the 1996 disaster epic Twister, is scheduled to open in theaters across the Chinese mainland on Friday, simultaneously with its release in North America.
Made by the production team responsible for Jurassic World and with Steven Spielberg as executive producer, it stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell.
Set in the state of Oklahoma, the film follows a formerly ambitious tornado-chaser and meteorologist who, after abandoning her daring profession following the tragic loss of friends, is persuaded to return to familiar territory behind the wheel, chasing and tracking tornadoes, to assist victims.
The film had its premiere in Beijing on Tuesday, during which several of the most high-profile scenes from the film were re-created, including one depicting a street devastated by a tornado.
