UN adopts AI cooperation resolution proposed by China
The adoption of a resolution, proposed by China and co-sponsored by over 140 countries, on strengthening international cooperation in the capacity building of artificial intelligence, fully demonstrated the political will of all countries to bridge the artificial intelligence gap through unity and cooperation, Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted the resolution on "Enhancing International Cooperation on Capacity-building of Artificial Intelligence".
The resolution emphasizes that the development of artificial intelligence should adhere to "the principles of being human-centered," promoting beneficial intelligence and benefiting humanity.
With the focus on capacity building, the resolution stresses enhancing the representation and voice of developing countries in global AI governance, advocates for an open, fair, and non-discriminatory business environment, and supports the UN in playing a central role.
It also encourages international cooperation and practical actions to help countries, especially developing countries, strengthen their AI capacity building, and achieve sound and sustainable development of AI.
Speaking at a daily news briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China highly appreciated all UN member states’ strong support for the resolution and their important contributions to the adoption of the resolution.
She said the adoption of the resolution showed that the international community, especially developing countries, pays close attention to capacity building and has a strong desire to actively participate in the global AI governance.
China is willing to take this opportunity to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the international community and promote the follow-up implementation of the resolution, the spokeswoman said.
China is ready to help relevant countries accelerate the development of relevant capabilities within the framework of the UN, realize the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind, she added.
In another development, Mao expressed appreciation to the United States for co-sponsoring the resolution, saying China stands ready to work with the US to strengthen bilateral and multilateral dialogue and cooperation on AI and promote all human beings to share intelligence dividends.
