Summer splendor unveiled at Badaling Great Wall

Summer vacationers heading to the Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing, Beijing's northwestern district, are in for a treat with a diverse array of activities tailored for their enjoyment. From grand opera performances and captivating poem recitals to enchanting night boating experiences and informative bus sightseeing tours, the Beijing Badaling Culture and Tourism Group has curated offerings to enhance visitors' experiences at this historic site.

An immersive new opera production has been unveiled, delving into the rich history and culture of the Great Wall. Taking guests on a journey through the Wall's development across different dynasties — from the Qin (221-206 BC) and Han (206 BC-AD 220) to the Tang (618-907) — this theatrical masterpiece promises to educate and entertain in equal measure.

Furthermore, the opportunity to cruise along the Guihe River offers a unique time-travel fantasy, complete with grand lighting displays, folk custom performances, and the serene backdrop of lush trees and majestic pagodas lining the riverbanks. These experiences are part of a broader initiative by the Beijing Badaling Culture and Tourism Group to showcase the Great Wall's cultural heritage and create vibrant night tourism scenes.

Night tours of the Badaling Great Wall have been available since May, featuring innovative cultural performances and local intangible heritage items to enrich travelers' visits. These engaging experiences are set to continue until October, providing ample opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and history of this iconic landmark.

During a recent night tourism promotion meeting on June 21, Rong Xinfeng, Party secretary of the tourism group, announced eight measures aimed at facilitating inbound tourists' visits, underscoring the commitment to enhancing visitor experiences. The Badaling Great Wall scenic area has already welcomed 147,000 inbound travelers as of mid-June this year, marking a notable 81 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
