A total of 269 gold medals are up for grabs at the Chengdu games, in sports such as archery, gymnastics, track and field, and badminton. About 6,500 athletes from 113 countries and regions are competing at the games.

Average age of the Chinese delegation, which totals more than 700 people, including 411 student-athletes from 25 provincial regions. Team China comprises 206 male and 205 female athletes. A total of 387 of those will be making their debuts at the World University Games, while 344 will be competing for the national team for the first time at an international sports event.

800,000 square meters

The Chengdu FISU World University Games Village opened on July 22, covering an area of 800,000 square meters. The event is equipped with self-driving buses, a next-gen intelligent translation system and other high-tech facilities.

26,000 metric tons

Thirty-six of the games' sports venues have been renovated from existing structures. There will be 1,340 new-energy buses and more than 1,000 new-energy minibuses in use during the games. Various measures have been put in place to reduce the carbon footprint of the games, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 26,000 metric tons.

20,000 volunteers

will serve at the games. They were carefully chosen following a rigorous selection and training process.

95 minutes

After more than 1,000 days of preparations, the opening ceremony of the games were staged at Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu at 8 pm on July 28. Adopting the theme 'simple, safe and splendid', the entire ceremony lasted around 95 minutes.
