6 must-visit counties on the plateau of Tibet
Six tourist destinations will become new name cards of the plateau of Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region - known as the "roof of the world", the organizers of the 5th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo unveiled on Saturday in Lhasa.
The six counties, namely, Markam, Bomi, Medog, Cona, Dingri and Burang, are situated along the national highway G219, the longest national highway in China spanning 10,065 kilometers, which offers a diverse range of awe-inspiring natural wonders such as snow-capped mountains, vast grasslands, deserts, lakes, canyons and glaciers.
G219 starts from Xinjiang in the northwest, and passes through Tibet and Yunnan before ending in Guangxi in the south. The Tibet section of G219 is the highest highway on Earth. It weaves through Ngari, Xigaze, Shannan, Nyingchi and other places, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the splendid natural sceneries and rich cultural heritage of Tibet.
The 5th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the regional government of Tibet.
