As a decade-long event to bring together established filmmakers and critics in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the eighth "Top Ten Chinese-language Films" list has recently been released in Beijing, according to the organizers.

Ne Zha and The Wandering Earth, respectively the country's second- and third highest-grossing films of all time, notch up two seats on the list.

The titles from Chinese mainland also include the youth film Better Days, the arthouse drama So Long, My Son, and the anthology blockbuster My People, My Country.

Ethnic Tibetan director Pema Tseden's film Jinpa, about a string of mysteries taking place after a traffic accident that kills a sheep, also features on the list, alongside actor Hu Ge's crime thriller The Wild Goose Lake, as the other two features presented by Chinese mainland producers.

My Prince Edward, a comedy that looks into struggles that young women face in Hong Kong, is the only Hong Kong feature to be ranked in the list. The list also consists of two Taiwan films, A Sun and Wet Season.

Zhang Sitao, secretary general of the list's selection commission, said a total of 36 famous film critics attended the first-round selection, before 13 renowned filmmakers and industry insiders voted to decide the final list.

Recalling that cultural exchanges among Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan have experienced a surge since 1980s, Zhang said he wishes the list could boost exchanges and cooperation, propelling the prosperous development of Chinese cinema.
