Runway success
In a break with tradition, French fashion house Chloe chose Shanghai over Paris as the location to debut its latest collection on the catwalk.
On the rooftop of the Long Museum overlooking the Bund, Chloe girls parade in a light summer breeze against the Shanghai sunset. It's the first time that the French fashion house has held a show outside of Paris in its 67-year history, and the first Chloe Resort Collection to debut on the runway.
The brand's creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi, who is a devoted fan of Chinese movies, spent more than half a year immersing herself in Chinese cinema preparing for the collection. She sought inspiration from the works of directors Jia Zhangke, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Zhang Yimou, Bi Gan and Lou Ye, whose cinematography formed the basis for the collection's mood board. Their movies usually feature strong lead actresses like Gong Li, Zhao Tao and Shu Qi - who were sitting in the front row of the show which ran through June.
